Oracle Touch BES990 Probe Diagnostics

Breville / Sage Oracle Touch · BES990 only

Oracle Touch probe diagnostics.

Read the steam-debug fields and understand the probe-health warnings without treating one AD value as a guarantee.

The source explicitly warns against using this test on a Dual Boiler or non-touch Oracle. Display labels, thresholds and firmware behaviour must be confirmed on the actual BES990.

Before you start

A BES990 diagnostic reference. The source’s full test drains a powered hot boiler; this guide limits owner actions to recording external screens and symptoms, with controlled testing left to a repairer.

Before you work

  • Keep the casing closed when recording powered screens.
  • Do not open the boiler drains or tilt a hot or powered machine to repeat the test.
  • Stop using a leaking, overheating or non-filling appliance and seek service support.

Tools and supplies

  • No casing tools for recording the external screens
  • A record of model, interface version, symptoms and displayed fields
  • Qualified service support for controlled probe testing or internal repair

The source is BES990-specific and includes a test that can leave an already faulty machine stuck. Its hot-drain and tilted-machine recovery demonstrations are not owner instructions in this guide.

Part 1 of 3

Assess and prepare

01

Confirm the model and the reason for checking

Confirm the machine is an Oracle Touch BES990. Record whether it already fails to heat, fill or finish a descale.

If it is already stuck or behaving abnormally, obtain service advice rather than running another descale to see what happens.

Workshop walkthrough

02

Open the external diagnostic display

With the machine assembled, switch off at the outlet. Hold the machine’s POWER button while switching the outlet on and keep holding until the password screen appears.

The source uses five zeros, then the debug menu and the steam-debug page. If your interface differs, stop and use the correct version’s information.

03

Record the displayed fields without forcing a state

Record steam-boiler temperature, boiler/heater status and the high- and low-probe AD fields as displayed.

The source associates the high probe with filling and the low probe with heat permission. Reading a screen does not prove the actual water level or the health of the probe.

04

Understand the source’s threshold limits

The narrator uses 1880 as the example detection point and discusses larger margins in that particular investigation. These are source-machine observations, not an official all-firmware pass specification.

Do not use the later arithmetic about solution changing the count as a calculation rule; the narration and overlay use inconsistent directions.

05

Have a repairer assess controlled wet/dry response

The full source test changes boiler water level while watching the fields. That requires controlled handling of hot water, pressure, filling and heater behaviour.

A qualified repairer should establish the safe method and interpret the actual machine. This guide does not supply the powered drain, repeated-drain or tilt-and-shake recipe.

A five-second drain or a high AD number is not, by itself, proof that a descale will be safe.

06

Use a failure example as a reason to stop

The video shows an example whose reported probe state does not recover as expected, followed by a machine stuck after the test.

Record the displayed values and refer it for diagnosis. Internal probe cleaning or replacement requires isolation, cooling and a pressure-safe service procedure.

Finish and verify

07

Decide using the whole machine condition

If sensing, filling or heating is unreliable, resolve that fault before a descale. New probes and a clean tip are not a universal guarantee, as the later Part 2 video explains.

For normal maintenance use the actual BES990 manual and its Settings → Descale Cycle procedure, with the correct product and dose.

The original workshop film

Watch the repair in context

View the footage as diagnostic context. Internal work, hot drains, probe removal and tilting a heavy machine are outside this external-screen walkthrough.

Final checks

Use this checklist to review the work and the evidence. It does not claim that these checks were completed on your machine.

  • The machine is confirmed as BES990, not a different Dual Boiler model.
  • Observed values are recorded with their test conditions.
  • No archive threshold is treated as a guaranteed pass.
  • Abnormal sensing or filling is resolved before further descaling.

Sources and model notes

Written from the original BrevTech footage and its current description. Every screenshot links to the matching video time. The film may omit service detail; model and procedure limits are stated above.

Use the procedure and parts that match the actual machine. Stop if the fault, connections or required safety checks cannot be established. Read the BrevTech repair disclaimer.
