Before you start
A small mechanical repair. Confirm the latch is actually broken before sacrificing its retaining tabs.
Before you work
Switch off, unplug and let the machine cool before placing tools around the lid.
Keep fragments out of the water-fill area. Remove loose pieces before using the machine.

Correct replacement lid latch
The video describes the removal operation more accurately than its newer description’s Phillips-screwdriver tool list: the filmed tools are a flat-blade screwdriver and pliers.

Assess and prepare
01
Check whether the latch is broken
Look into the lid catch and check for dirt, sticking or a visibly broken catch. A lid that will not stay shut does not automatically need a new latch.
Confirm the replacement matches the original before removing it.

Workshop walkthrough
02
Identify the old latch’s retaining tabs
The demonstrator uses a spare latch to show the small retaining flaps on its two sides. Identify those flaps on the old part.
The next operation breaks the old latch’s retaining tabs. Do it only when replacing a confirmed broken latch.

03
Release both sides of the old latch
Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver down the side of the old latch and turn it gently to release the retaining flap. Repeat at the other side as shown.
Work on the replaceable latch; avoid levering against or damaging the lid opening.

Finish and verify
05
Snap in the replacement and check closure
Push the correctly oriented new latch into its recess until it seats. Close and reopen the top-fill lid to check that it catches and releases normally.
Do not force the lid if it will not close; recheck the seating and part match.

The original workshop film
Watch the repair in context
The complete source video is 1:59. The retaining tabs are intentionally broken on the old, discarded latch; the machine’s lid housing should remain intact.
Final checks
Use this checklist to review the work and the evidence. It does not claim that these checks were completed on your machine.
All broken plastic fragments have been removed.
The latch is seated and retained.
The lid closes, stays shut and opens normally.
