Repair Time: 30-45 minutes

Step-by-Step:

Step 1: Unplug the machine and let it cool fully.

Step 2: Remove the two phillips screws underneath the front panel.

Step 3 - Remove the two torx screws at the back

Step 4 - Lift the lid

Step 5 - Grip the steam level cover (easier with rubber gloves) and pull hard to remove:

Step 6 - Remove the phillips screw holding the steam dial actuator (SP0001712) in:

Step 7 - Pull to release actuator. If the screw is rusted in, use a 5mm drill bit to remove the screw head, and the remaining thread with pliers once the actuator is removed.

Step 8 - Take out the two phillips screws holding the bracket in and pull out the two clips to remove steam valve:

Step 9 - Remove the top section of the valve with a 13mm spanner:

Step 10 - Then hold the valve with an adjustable spanner or vice to aid removing the 14mm bottom section:

Step 11 - Using a 6mm allen key, remove the middle section (can be very tight), to reveal the the internal washer and ball valve:

Step 12 - Remove the ball and push out the valve key to access the existing seal:

Step 13 - Using a small flat blade, take out both old washers. For the more difficult one, use the edge of a small flat-bladed screwdriver and push down:

Now is a good time to mention, there are four conditions that might prevent you repairing the valve. These are explained here: https://youtu.be/lcWhYbNrwV4?t=269

Step 14 - Drop the two new washers from the kit into their places (use the allen key to help):

Step 15 - cut off the old o-ring and stretch the new on into its place. Do not use anything sharp for this step to avoid damaging the o-ring:

Step 16 - Apply some grease if you have some and use pliers to pull the key back into its place. Ensure the groove is pointing forward so the ball can slot in:

Step 17 - Using a wire brush, clean up any buildup on the ball so it makes a good seal against the washers:

Step 18 - Slot the ball into place aligned with the full face outwards. This is so the washer will get pressed into a convex shape during the next step:

Step 19 - Fully tighten the other part of the mid section to mold the two washers into shape:

Step 20 - Re-assemble the rest of the valve, along with replacing the three red o-rings and fit back into place.

Step 21 - Install the newly-serviced steam valve back into its place:

Step 22 - Finally, you will find the lever is now quite stiff to turn, so just turn it on and off a few times to help the new washers work into shape. And that's it, you will now have a fully serviced steam wand valve!
