How to Enter Live Debug Mode on the Oracle BES980
This mode is very handy for troubleshooting a wide range of problems, such as temperatures and water levels.
Step 1: Turn on the machine.
Step 2: During operation, press and hold: "Select" encoder + "Menu" button.
Step 3: A short beep indicates activation.
Step 4: Press the "Menu" button again within 3 seconds to confirm.
Use the long black / Americano button to scroll through the settings. The index is displayed on the grinder LCD (depending on firmware version) and the values in the main LCD
1. Coffee boiler temperature - should be ~93c
2. Steam boiler temperature - should be ~130c
3. Group head temperature - should be ~93c
4. Steam wand temperature - should be room temp
5. Coffee boiler status
6. Steam boiler status
7. Group head status
8. Steam high probe AD - under 391 if water detected
9. Steam low probe AD - under 391 if water detected
10. Coffee boiler probe AD - under 391 if water detected
11. Temper VR AD
12. Temper Current Sense AD
13. Grind VR AD
14. Flow meter 1 Count
15. Flow meter 1 count per second
16. Calculated flow rate of last 5 sec (ml/sec)
17. Coffee solenoid status
18. Steam solenoid status
19. Hot water solenoid status
Example 1:
You might find that steam low is 80, but steam high is 1022. This means your steam boiler is not fully filled as the high probe (red wire) is not submerged. This would likely indicate a blockage or faulty steam pump.
Example 2:
Your steam boiler temp is reading ~40c. You might find that steam low is 855, but steam high is 104. This means your steam boiler thinks the top half has water, but the bottom half is empty, which is obviously impossible. This is an indication that your sensor probes are giving false readings. Do not use your machine if this is the case until you have replaced the sensors with new ones.
Example 3:
Group head temperature is reading high at 110c but all other readings look ok. This would indicate a fault on your triac board, which would need further diagnoses and a repair kit.
